ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY

Health Services

Program Overview

The purpose of this two-part online course is to introduce you to the structure and function of the human body. The course begins with an introduction to anatomy and its various branches, followed by a study of chemical organization, cells, tissues, organs, and various body systems. In part 2, your studies continue with the study of the human body with emphasis on the cardiovascular, lymphatic, immune, respiratory, digestive, urinary, and reproductive systems. It also discusses special topics, including pregnancy, human development.

Learning Objectives
When you complete this course, you’ll be able to:

  • Identify the basic anatomical structures of the human body
  • Describe the physiological functions of human body systems
  • Analyze and discuss the organization of the human body in order of increasing complexity
  • Describe the major organ systems of the human body
  • Synthesize similarities between different body systems
  • Analyze the process and mechanics of homeostasis
  • Explain how human anatomy and physiology are related
  • Identify the levels of structural organization that make up the human body and explain
    how they’re related
  • Identify and locate resources appropriate for selected research topics
  • Demonstrate competent analytical skills
  • Describe the major organs of the body and their physiological functions
  • Describe the physiological functions of various body systems
  • Explain how various body systems work together to maintain homeostasis
  • Research and analyze information about selected topics in anatomy and physiology
  • Apply knowledge of anatomy and physiology to specific problems and cases
  • Demonstrate competent analytical skills

Program Outline

Here's how it works
Your certificate program consists of courses designed to take you step-by-step toward understanding anatomy and physiology. Your first course will be sent to you as soon as your enrollment has been accepted. Other courses will follow as you complete your exams, so that you will always have study materials to work with.

You will need access to a Microsoft® Windows®-based computer to complete this program. The Continuing Education Center recommends the following as minimum specifications: Pentium® II or better processor, using Microsoft® Windows® XP or later. You will also need to have access to the Internet and Microsoft® Office 2007 to complete portions of this program.
