Program Overview

This course uses Abode® Illustrator® (software included with the program) to teach computer illustration techniques. Your studies include the elements and mediums of design from concept to finish product. You will develop the skills needed to successfully create a designed piece through this visual application.

Upon completion of the program, students will have acquired the skills to utilize the illustration and design graphics capabilities of Adobe® Illustrator®.

Your course material will be sent immediately after your enrollment has been accepted. You will need access to a computer to complete this program.

Computer specifications
You will need access to a Microsoft® Windows®-based computer to complete this program. The Continuing Education Center recommends the following as minimum specifications: Pentium® IV, Centrino®, Xeon®, Core DuoTM or better, Windows® XP (sp2), or Vista® as the operating system with 512 MB RAM minimum (1 GB recommended), 2GB available hard drive space, and DVD ROM drive.  You will also need Internet access and an email account.

You will complete the following courses in the order indicated to earn your Adobe® Illustrator® Certificate:

GRD110 - Introduction to Graphic Design

Introduction to Graphic Design covers the basic principles, elements, and mediums of design through the concept, skills, and tools involved in developing a design piece through the applications of these concepts to visual and communication processes. This course also covers industry terminology, file types, balance, contrast, direction, economy, emphasis, proportion, rhythm, and unity as it relates to graphic design creations.

GRD115 - Graphic Design and Production (Illustrator®)

This course places emphasis on the conceptualization of computer illustration techniques using Illustrator® and its implementation in page layout. Students complete a series of projects using Adobe® Illustrator® to develop proficiency in print and web-based applications.

Online Library and Librarian
Students in the Continuing Education Center have access to an online library for use during their studies. Students can use this library to do the required research in the courses they complete or can use it for general reference and links to valuable resources. The library contains helpful research assistance, articles, databases, books, and Web links. A librarian is available to answer questions on general research-related topics via email and to assist students in research activities during their studies with the Continuing Education Center.
